Featherbed's March Madness Adventure!

March is upon us, and with it comes the thrilling time of year when basketball fans eagerly anticipate the games of March Madness. This season, FBL decided to celebrate this event in a surprising and delightful way. With a range of fun activities inspired by the spirit of the tournament, our young learners engaged in a day full of laughter, learning, and teamwork.

FBL embraced the tournament's energy by shaking up our usual routine. The staff devised several creative games that not only encouraged playful competition but also promoted physical activity and learning. This unique approach turned March into a month of excitement and growth for our children.

Game Time: Fun and Learning

One of the most popular activities was the mini-basketball games. Each child took turns shooting at small hoops, focusing on both scoring points and learning to count. The joy radiated through the room as children celebrated every basket and cheered for their friends. This activity also fostered teamwork and camaraderie, reinforcing important social skills.

To sweeten the deal, Two Plus & Walker 2 students munched on special basketball cookies that might have been more dunkable than our shots! And just when we thought it couldn’t get any better, we wrapped it all up with a SURPRISE teachers vs. students (and their parents/special guests) basketball game! It was a week to remember, filled with laughter, teamwork, and a few questionable referee calls!

Crafting Our Own Basketball Art & Jerseys

Creativity flourished at FBL when we introduced team-themed arts and crafts.

We crafted some beautiful basketball-themed masterpieces—because who doesn't want a glittery basketball to hang on their fridge? We also explored basketball-themed sensory bins, which were basically giant treasure chests of squishy balls and mini hoops. And let's not forget the highlight: making our own jerseys! Who knew markers, crayons, and paper jerseys could turn us into fashion designers?

Storytime Slam Dunk

To incorporate a literary aspect into our festivities, storytime transformed into an exciting basketball adventure in March. Each day, we read selections that emphasized teamwork, perseverance, and the various facets of winning and losing.

These discussions around the stories ignited meaningful conversations among the students, allowing them to share thoughts on sportsmanship and the value of teamwork. The environment fostered new friendships, respect, and understanding.
